SUMMERTIME AND THE COLORS GOT LOUD Hi. I re-did the color scheme. And maybe my whole art practice I didn't mean to... I started doing these quick, vibrant paintings of some of my local urban fauna, and one thing led to another, and a few sleepless nights later, Sharptooth Snail exploded with color. ...and honestly? I think it has needed this for a long time. I know, now that I'm in the middle of this series, that I've been going in this direction for a long time. I'm working with these...

The 2025 Superb Owl painting — a Northern Saw Whet Owl, peeking in diagonnaly from the right, on a red-orange background

Short Month, short letter! Hi Reader, Did you guys see the Superb Owl for this year? I'm actually really proud of this one. It's so much looser than I usually let myself be with an acrylic painting, like I'm finally letting myself have a little fun instead of having to prove I know how to render a subject. Janu-what now? Hi Reader, Soooo... 2025 is off to a start already, isn't it? I know a lot of you are, like me, in Southern California, and if you're affected by the fires (and it has affected all of us, to varying degrees), my heart is with you. I'm not the most cash-flush person in the world, but I want to help,...

Reader, it's COLD Outside! I know, nobody wants to hear the Californian complain about the cold, when she means like, 50 degrees, but it's all relative! Fortunately, my ancient Cintiq is toasty warm when I'm drawing on it, so that can only be a good thing for the art offerings this winter. The Long-Awaited Coloring Collection Is Here! The week between Christmas and New Years has a reputation for being a time without time... what day is it? Who knows! Do you have plans? Probably not. It's a...

Hey there, Reader I’m doing a ton of traveling right now, but I wanted to say hello and introduce the new format for the Infrequently Updated Newsletter, which I’ve finally decided to name [Art Inside] after the note I write on the envelopes when I ship my prints (“Do Not Bend— Art Inside”). Do you have anything you’re interested in seeing or hearing about? Let me know! Just reply to this email; it’ll land right in my inbox. This was started over the Pacific and finished over the Gulf of...
